Sydney Metro will create 66 kilometres of new metro rail and 31 new stations. The new line will transform the way Sydney travels through a turn up and go transport solution inclusive of world-class fast trains and real-time smart-phone journey planning. As a standalone railway, Sydney Metro will improve the reliability of existing Sydney Trains network and includes two interchanges for commuters to transit between networks.
Sydney Metro Northwest, formerly the North West Rail Link, is Stage 1 of the project. It will introduce Sydney’s new rapid transit system that will be operated by single-decker metro-style trains and will be Australia’s first fully-automated passenger network. This project incorporates both construction of a new greenfield rail line and brownfield conversion of an existing section of the double-decker train network. The PPP element of the project is one of the largest in Australia.
