FOOTSCRAY HOSPITAL PPP
the largest ever health capital investment in the state of Victoria
At least 599
additional points of care to meet projected demand
additional patients to be treated each year
jobs created during the construction and operating phases
Footscray Hospital’s ability to meet demand for health services in the inner west, and service the broader western Melbourne area, is being challenged by:
- sustained growth in demand for health services in Melbourne’s west is more rapid and extensive than previously projected, with the key causes being population growth, increasing use of hospital services and an ageing population; and
- ageing condition of the existing Footscray Hospital.
As a result, the Victorian Government provided $1.5b in the 2019-2020 State Budget to deliver the New Footscray Hospital with a capacity of 599 Points of Care (504 beds) to replace the existing facility, and ensure that demand for health services in the inner west is met when it opens in 2025. The project will be procured and delivered as an availability PPP, and upon completion the New Footscray Hospital will also be a major education, research and community precinct.
Infrastructure Advisory Group is currently delivering the Technical Lead role on this project to the Victorian Health and Human Services Building Authority to ensure the built solution and facilities management solution support Western Health’s model of care, whilst delivering on the overarching Project vision and objectives.
