Sydney Metro will create 66 kilometres of new metro rail and 31 new stations. The new line will transform the way Sydney travels through a turn up and go transport solution inclusive of world-class fast trains and real-time smart-phone journey planning. As a standalone railway, Sydney Metro will improve the reliability of the existing Sydney Trains network and includes two interchanges for commuters to transit between networks.

Sydney Metro City and Southwest (Sydenham to Bankstown) is Stage 2 of the project. This will deliver 30 kilometres of new metro rail between Chatswood and Bankstown, including new twin tunnels under Sydney Harbour and upgrade works to 11 stations to metro railway standards.
