The B2N will upgrade a 40km section of the main North Coast Line in Queensland, which represents the last single track of railway in Australia catering for a complex mix of freight, commuter passenger, long-distance passenger and high-speed services. The project solution and commissioning staging will be the most complex delivered on the Queensland Rail network.
The project will improve the overall transport network and increase track capacity and reliability, creating travel time savings and enabling an increase in passenger and freight services, to support regional growth. The B2N project was listed as a near-term priority project on Infrastructure Australia’s Infrastructure Priority List in March 2018 and has since received funding commitments from both the State and Federal Governments for delivery of Stage 1 of the project ($550.8M).
