ASSET MANAGEMENT STRATEGY AND DELIVERY MODEL

Asset management

strategy to guide long term operation and maintenance

Three major assets

Sydney Harbour Tunnel, Western Harbour Tunnel and M6 Stage 1

Prioritising

whole of lifecycle outcomes

The IAG team provided TfNSW an asset management strategy to guide the long-term operation and maintenance of three major tunnel assets: the Sydney Harbour Tunnel, Western Harbour Tunnel, and M6 Stage 1. The challenge was to implement a model that incentivised service providers to prioritise whole-of-life outcomes while embedding asset management expertise early in project development and construction.

Our team played a key role in standing up this new delivery model, ensuring that asset performance, lifecycle cost optimisation, and long-term maintenance planning were embedded from the outset. By integrating asset management principles into contract structuring and service provider engagement, the model shifted focus from short-term cost efficiencies to sustained asset value. This approach set a new benchmark for infrastructure asset management in Australia, ensuring tunnel assets are maintained to high performance standards while minimising long-term operational risks.
