The transition to Zero Emission Buses (ZEB) represents a unique opportunity to accelerate the decarbonisation of NSW’s transport sector and meet NSW Government’s net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The project will involve execution of a transition plan to sustainably replace over 8000 diesel and compressed natural gas buses with zero emissions technology. The ZEB Greater Sydney Tranche 1 project procures over 1,200 battery electric buses, depot infrastructure conversions, construction of a new bus depot, upgrades to the power grid network and procurement of renewable energy for bus charging across six regions in Greater Sydney by 2030.
IAG’s role was to support the further development and implementation of the delivery and procurement strategy approved in the Final Business Case, management of all its pre-delivery, commercial and transaction activities, including with respect to the greenfield Macquarie Park Bus Depot, various Brownfield depot conversions, multiple waves of ZEB Fleet procurement and elements of the Western Sydney Rapid Bus projects.
The IAG team played a key role in developing and refining the contracting, procurement and delivery strategy outlined in the Final Business Case and led its practical implementation following Infrastructure NSW Gate 3 and Gate 4 approvals. Working closely with Transport for NSW (TfNSW), IAG managed both the depot conversion and construction, as well as the bus fleet procurement.
