The former Queensland Government’s Energy and Jobs Plan focused on two major state-owned pumped hydro projects—the Pioneer-Burdekin near Mackay and the Borumba Dam west of the Sunshine Coast—with a combined 5–7 gigawatts of storage capacity, aimed at supporting the state’s shift from coal-fired power to renewable energy by acting as large-scale batteries to store and release energy as needed, in line with Queensland’s renewable energy targets.
IAG provided comprehensive project management and analytical services to advance the former Queensland government’s landmark state-owned Pumped Hydro Energy Storage Projects.IAG enabled stakeholders to navigate technical complexities and facilitate fundamental project decisions that aligned with both immediate project delivery requirements and long-term energy transition goals. IAG skilfully managed multi-stakeholder engagement across financial, governance, and project development dimensions as the designated liaison between key Government agencies and Queensland Hydro. IAG served as the agency representative on numerous projects working groups established to determine project feasibility ahead of a key investment decision.
