Cairns Marine Precinct is a strategic maritime asset, servicing approximately 80% of registered vessels in the region and 15% of all Australian registered vessels, and home to the Australian Navy’s Regional Maintenance Centre-North East. The CMP-CUF project will relocate existing infrastructure and develop a common user facility with land and maritime components, including a 5,000 tonne ship lift and blast and paint facilities, to cater to the growing demand for maritime maintenance, repair and overhaul services.
IAG was engaged by the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning and Ports North to provide procurement advisory services for the Cairns Marine Precinct Common User Facility project. Key activities included analysing the outcomes of the Detailed Business Case, assessing the current delivery context, evaluating market capacity and reviewing lessons learned from similar recent projects.
IAG facilitated assessment workshops with key stakeholders to identify preferred packaging and delivery model options for further analysis. Market sounding was conducted with a range of civil and marine contractors to test and gather feedback on these models, alongside consultation with government delivery agencies in Far North Queensland to understand recent procurement processes, delivery challenges and supply chain capabilities.
