The Melbourne Airport is a world class 24-hour operation and key to Victoria’s economic future. Currently in the planning phases, the Melbourne Airport Rail Link is likely to include 25km of heavy rail connection between Melbourne Airport and the CBD, which will provide fast, frequent and affordable public transport to and from the airport.
The project is likely to involve extensive tunnelling and complex underground interfaces with the federally controlled Melbourne Airport. The airport’s operations directly support 20,700 full time jobs with an additional 20,900 in business parks and precincts surrounding the Airport. The rail link’s new Sunshine SuperHub has the potential to add thousands of more jobs to Victoria.
